Mission Statement:

The Tucson Area Reading Council will promote and enhance literacy for learners of all ages throughout the community.

Goals:

To serve the diverse needs of ethnic, cultural and intergenerational segments of our community

To create, sponsor and/or support innovative literacy projects and programs

To form a community advisory group to stimulate public interest in literacy development, network with other educational agencies and businesses, and support lifelong learning

To promote professional growth for practitioners in the field of literacy

TARC provides:

  • Opportunities to network with other professionals
  • Professional development through conferences, workshops, newsletters and Teachers as Readers
  • Arizona Reading Association including subscriptions to Reflections and The Arizona Reading Journal
  • Opportunities to share professional expertise
  • Service projects that promote literacy in the Tucson community
  • Reading and Study Groups focusing on professional literature and children's literature
  • Opportunities for parent and group participation
