April Brown - Media Award |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
April Brown's contribution to literacy occurs twice every evening on Eyewitness News 4. April is a television reporter whose job it is to let the public know what's happening "Inside our Schools," which is also the name of her news segment. She started this special coverage last October. Five days a week April selects her own assignments, does her own research, writes and produces her segments. |

This job takes her to many schools in the Tucson area where she collects information. Approximately 75% of her reports include positive news about schools, and she often profiles successful educators. "Love of Reading" week was a focus for a week long program where she did stories on the Stallion Reading Program, Lawyers for Literacy, and family literacy programs, etc. April is also writing a children's book. |

April's literacy contributions benefit Tucson as she raises greater community awareness on the importance of literacy, and she reinforces the concept of "with knowledge comes power." April helps educate parents and children regarding the value of reading. We are very lucky to watch April Brown focus on literacy issues in Tucson schools. |
