Beth Horn - Teacher Award

Beth Horn has been teaching music for the past 12 years at Orange Grove Middle School in the Catalina Foothills School District.  For the past three years she organized a classroom project applying student talents in storytelling, music and visual arts to create wonderful books and accompanying musical tapes.  These books and tapes are then donated to public libraries and their outreach programs.

Many of the stories touch on real-life topics which are relative to children universally--monsters under the bed, fear of the dark, being different, acceptance, etc.  The stories are wonderful in that they not only concern important topics but they are written so that other children will be able to enjoy them.  Every story has a moral, so children can learn something from reading and listening to the story, too.

These books and tapes give children opportunities that may help stimulate their interest in reading and enjoying books.   We are very fortunate to have Beth teaching and sharing her talents in literacy with Tucson students.
